Notities

  • II./AR.677 was a motorized artillery battalion that was attached to the 9th Panzerdivison on May 11 for the sake of the campaign against the Netherlands. It was equipped with 12 off motorised light field howitsers 10,5 cm of the lFH.18 type. On the 13th, possibly the early hours of the 14th, it marched along the main road across the Island of Dordrecht towards Rotterdam where it was supposed to support the Gruppe Oberst von Apell for the assault across the Nieuwe Maas in Rotterdam. It is possible - but unconfirmed - that it was briefly assigned to assist in one of the artillery barrages of Dutch formations in the Hoekse Waard (east of the Kil waterway). The circumstances under which the gunner Sorber was wounded or killed are not known. The sources remain undisclosed on that event. Perhaps he was wounded elsewhere and dropped off at a Dordrecht hospital, but its also very possible that an ordinary accident occurred. Being a member of the staff he may also have been attached to another unit for matters of cross-unit communication.
