Notities

  • It is unclear when the first loads of 14./IR.16 actually landed on Waalhaven, although it is beyond doubt that they were part of the second wave of landings in the original scheme. Since the second wave suffered a huge delay due to high aircraft losses and logistical disorder, it is almost certain that the first bits of 14./IR.16 didn't land before noon on the first day. Certain is too that at least one platoon (comprising three guns) was available in the early evening, as can be read from the German battle-reports. Uncertain is though how many guns were sent to Rotterdam. That shall not have exceeded three pieces, for most of the AT guns were assigned securing duties on the island Ysselmonde. The death of Gefreiter Maskow - administrated as KIA in Rotterdam - is a further indication that at least one PAK gun was sent into Rotterdam during the first day. A picture of his field-grave, apparently taken in a garden in the south of Rotterdam (together with Uffz Kupfer of 6./IR.72), is known in the Bundesarchiv [no. 116-483-020].
