Notities

  • 17./KGzbV.5 was the special Luftwaffe transport unit assigned to fly in the airborne and airlanding troops of the Group Koch, that was tasked to siege the Eben Emael fortress in the NE of Belgium. The unit was reassigned to the 7th Fliegerkorps afterwards, involving it in airlifts to Waalhaven airport in the Netherlands. It was amongst other duties assigned to fly in a part of the 7th Airborne Division AT company. Unteroffizier Krobot was most likely mortally wounded on board one of the Ju-52, because he wasn't burried on Dutch soil, unlike the Germans that perished on the ground. The battle report of Koch mentions him as being KIA southeast of Rotterdam. The German Volksbund registers Krobot as being KIA on 10 May 1940.
  • Krobot's registry as a victim of the battle of Rotterdam comes with a notification that the NVL of 17./KGrzbV.5 only mentions Gefreiter Brunotte as a victim in the Rotterdam area.
